(Shenzhen, 12th) – Intel made a bold statement at a high-profile event in Shenzhen, showcasing its commitment to entering the AI-powered automotive cockpit market.
During the event, Intel Vice President Jack West proudly unveiled the company’s first dedicated in-car graphics card, the ARC A760-A. This powerful GPU offers 229 TOPS of platform computing power and is equipped with 16GB of DDR6 memory. The card is slated for mass production in 2025 and is currently undergoing rigorous testing across various in-car application scenarios.
Historically, Intel has reigned supreme in the PC chip market, but in the realm of automotive smart cockpit chips, Qualcomm leads the pack, with AMD, Renesas, Intel, and Samsung trailing behind. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8155 chip has become the go-to choice for nearly all automakers, and its 8295 chip has already been embraced by companies such as Leapmotor, Nio, Zeekr, Xiaomi, and Mercedes-Benz.
Intel’s new graphics card represents a critical move in its bid to challenge Qualcomm’s dominance in this rapidly growing sector.
Disappointing Performance
Intel’s performance this year has been lackluster, prompting CEO Pat Gelsinger to describe the company’s second-quarter earnings report as “disappointing.”
The report revealed that Intel’s revenue for the second quarter was $12.8 billion, a 1% year-over-year decline, with a net loss of $1.6 billion.
In light of these challenging business conditions, Intel is leveraging its extensive experience in the personal computer industry to transition its PC ecosystem into the automotive cockpit space. Zeekr has already become the first automaker to adopt Intel’s software-defined vehicle SoC series, marking a significant step in Intel’s ambitious automotive strategy.
